Because I was on the flight back to New Delhi, I did not run today. As the pilot eloquently said just before take off, ‘It’s a thirteen and half hour flight and a nine and half hour time difference, so we will land about the time we take off – just a day later.‘
I watched a documentary on board titled simply, Runner, about Guor Marial, a South Sudanese marathon distance athlete. Watching it reminded me of Nicholas Kristof’s incredible reporting about the Sudan crisis.
In parts, where the documentary was running focused, I couldn’t help thinking about the boys at the track and the untapped, enormous potential in India, in my own backyard, in track and field and the marathon.
Perhaps one day that will come to fruition at the ultimate competitions.
