Whenever there is a helicopter in the infield and because of that, the track is shut down, I think of it as intrusive, even offensive.
Not the helicopter in itself but the fact that they would shut the track to the scores of us who need the track.
No one is interested in the helicopter. There is already a policeman guarding it.
At any rate, I stood around uncertainly wondering what to do. Very soon, familiar faces started pulling up to the parking lot.
To make best of the situation, we ran up and down the stadium driveway – one loop making about seven hundred metres.
There were about seven to nine of us, maybe more, led by Mr PS Lamba. You had to admire him. Well into his fifties with a steady, elegant running style, he led the pack for a full one hour.
Coach Ravi ran too – taking shortcuts and breaks and making us laugh.
At the end, it felt good, a satisfying time on feet run with track family.
But no helicopter or security policy has business in shutting off our home to sacred routine.
