Writing about Running

A diary, mostly about running, by Aseem Vadehra

A quiet run among many

Today when a friend cancelled last minute, I made my way to the track.

When I began, I was alone and the track was yet quiet and nearly empty.

About eighteen minutes into the run, nearly ten kids joined me. I looked around surprised. Usually, a few of the track gang joins me but that is nearly always for intervals.

But here we were – led by Suryansh, followed by Khushboo and Dipasha and many others whom I don’t know. We ran steadily and without conversation.

A quiet run, I could hear the drumming of shoes and the sound of breath. In and out of lungs. Thump thump thump of shoes.

The track is here. This land that nurtures and nourishes hundreds each day and only requires you to show up.
