Writing about Running

A diary, mostly about running, by Aseem Vadehra

On a day of change, together

This morning, continuing on the back of better weather, the young boy and I went to track.

I had a straightforward medium distance run. The young boy, after warming up for a few laps was in the hands of Coach Ravi.

From the lane nine vantage point, I could see him running 400s in the first lane. Sometimes it looked like he was flying.

Now that’s running, I thought.

Ashwini, who was with me, heard the Coach yell his splits and said, Sai hai. Age ke hisab se theek chal raha hai.

Towards the end when the young boy joined us for a couple of loops, Ashwini said, yeh mat socho kitne repetition hain, bas jor laga ke har repetition ko bhago.

On the way home, for the first time in a couple of months, I could see dawn approaching, the light changing to a blush of reds and pinks.

For me, today marked the beginning of the end of the winter season.
