Writing about Running

A diary, mostly about running, by Aseem Vadehra

Thank Goodness for Shikha

I slept little last night but made it to Nehru Park nearly on time. When I was driving there, I was hoping to bump into Shikha – it would be great to have company today, I thought, wiping the cold out of my eye.

And there she was, bounding down Niti Marg just as I turned my car in. I flagged her down as if taking a lift – nearly literally – and we started off. One loop around the park and we decided to head out as I call it.

Towards the parallel roads of Nyaya Marg, Shanti Path and the different cross roads, you’re set for a longer distance or so you can configure it, best suited to the psychological needs of long distance running.

We kept increasing the pace till we settled at what became comfortably consistent. I didn’t look at the watch, ran by pure feel and only saw the paces later.

The air in Delhi is now still and warm. For me – training in this weather anytime over the cold winter.

We ran silently, barely saying a word and keeping in step throughout. Comfortable recognition, you could say.

I waved goodbye when she finished and continued on for another five kilometres to complete the Sunday long run and the week’s training goals.
