Writing about Running

A diary, mostly about running, by Aseem Vadehra

Gangster Running

Later in the day, as we often do on Sunday, the young boy and I went to a café and switched around music in turns.

As we were pulling up to the last stretch before home, he played Gangsta’s Paradise, a track I hadn’t heard in decades.

Earlier in the morning, I felt sluggish and slow but we chatted and an easy ten kilometres came to the young boy before he left.

I met with Shikha and with a threadbare exchange of words, we set off towards Nyaya Marg.

I might run a double marathon, she quipped at some point. The San Francisco Ultra Marathon and the description she shared seemed – well – at the least exciting.

Because our ambitions in running are quite different – mine focused on pace and hers about volume and ultras, it does make me wonder whether I would switch the game at some point.

To train for something iconic – Ladakh or Comrades. To train with lots of volume and to train for patience.

But for now, it’s the track life, with Nehru Park and Lutyens as the back of my training towards my goals.
