Writing about Running

A diary, mostly about running, by Aseem Vadehra

Fast devotion

I could see the crease line of his neck as a ran less than a foot from me. Devotional music blared from his cellphone – surprisingly loud enough to discern despite six-seven of us running together.

This group of Nehru Park are what I call the fast runners. Some of them are very fast – too fast. They band together for a pace that they determine is right for the Sunday.

At any rate, I ran most of my long run last Sunday with some of them and it was fantastic fun. This Sunday they motioned to me again. I was nearly a third of my run in. But I did join them – for an hour or so – the pace was slower than last week but I could feel the tiredness of the week in my legs, in the effort.

The devotional music, the non-stop chatter from the fifty eight year old man with coach on his jersey, all of it helped.

Later, I had to get some air filled in the tires of the car. It was yet early morning. The guy switched on his machine and prayed before it, touching the pneumatic device to his forehead.

Everyone has their own devotion.
