The seasons are a-changing. When the young boy and I started this morning, it was dark with just a glimpse of dawn.
I have switched off lap alerts these past weeks. It’s good to run without beeps and the pressure of seeing pace and averages.
Looping near the Australian high commission, the young boy pointed towards the Vinay Marg section. So around Nehru Park we went. From there it was onwards to Nyaya and before long we were running all over the place.
This was a pre-birthday celebratory run and tradition. At a quick water pit stop, he asked me to only tell him the time left – not the distance elapsed. So I did. He was delighted.
We soon completed at a much faster pace than how we began and that completed the first part of this Sunday run.
Seeing him off to the car, I carried on, increasing my pace gently and then accelerating eventually towards what I hoped and thought would be a good pace to end the long session.
At the end, the last few kilometres were tough; the intense humidity was intensely draining – and when I finished I was completely spent.
On the way back, Mouth for War by Pantera was the perfect antidote for a surge of head-banging energy.
