Writing about Running

A diary, mostly about running, by Aseem Vadehra

Out on the road

Thinking back on the run today, the song Desert Plains by Judas Priest came to mind.

The road is straight cast, Wind’s in my eyes, The engine roars between my thighs

I wasn’t on a motorcycle but out on the road with a large contingent of the track gang.

It was a night sky above until dawn lazily started to creep up around the two kilometre mark. It had rained heavily yesterday all and the sides of the road were laden with slippery muck.

Whoosh. Jeet passed by leaving Suryansh, Dipasha, Khushbu and me in his wake. Then Ashwini, Monu and a couple of others caught up.

We quickened our pace to stay with them turning around at the HUDA metro station. On the way back it was fast going, the gang breaking up into twos and threes. Dipasha raced on ahead. Ashwini and I followed with Suryansh and Monu at our heels.

At the mile turn back to the stadium, we switched around places. Ashwini and Monu took the lead and kicking up at the last kilometre until they were too fast for me.

Drenched and immensely satisfied, it was Guns N’ Roses on the way back, but Desert Plains on my mind.
