Writing about Running

A diary, mostly about running, by Aseem Vadehra

Jeet Aur Kya

I had one kilometre intervals today. My coach Eilish said that if I was running the Delhi Half in a couple of weeks, this is what I owed the track.

Most of the kids had taken off today. I was destined to run this on my own. A few sets in, Jeet appeared with another kid and joined me. Within a couple of intervals, they were flying ahead until they were finishing a hundred metres ahead of me.

It was back to solo running. It was hard going throughout in the dark until a luminous glow started to appear in the night sky.

For the last interval, Jeet paced me and of course – because of him – it became the best interval of the morning.

When I touched the track surface while leaving, a golden light ringed the clouds in the eastern sky, rays of light illuminating their own path, diffusing into the ever changing blue sky.
