Back at home, a quick workout and off to work.
Today was a rest day.
After the Boston Marathon, I’ve been running my easy runs faster than usual pace. It seems to be coming for the most part naturally, but I am – for sure – slightly pushing myself. It’s not a leisurely run. Comfortable hard. Kinda.
I’m loving it.
The young boy came and we did one kilometre hard, one easy x 4 repeats. I had already done nearly fourteen kilometres by then. This rounded my long run to twenty two and a splendid eight kilometres with him.
The weather is getting increasingly hotter although he seemed to think it was good weather.
Back home after breakfast at Fig, it was on the pull up bar and other antics in the gym.
I caught an overnight flight to Delhi and landed here Saturday afternoon.
I was back at the park again – this time for intervals. I found an inner road that did quite well for the 400m repeats but after a few, I decided to do the rest around the park. The outer circle it was again, the cyclists, the runners, the early morning crew.
The path isn’t quite flat and it isn’t tarmac smooth in all places. These things you notice when you do intervals.
Post run, a big bowl of Greek yogurt for breakfast was a good reward.
I don’t know. But there are many. I took the Outer Circle of the park past stately apartments, the London Zoo, mansions, a mosque near the Baker Street turn off. The loop was about four and a half kilometres.
I don’t remember running here as I usually stick towards St James’s, Green Park and Hyde Park. It was a beautiful run. Dozens of cyclists seemed to be in training mode in club themed outfits. Many runners in tank tops and shorts contrary to me clad in winter gear for the nine degree temperature.
I set out to do two loops and round it up to a ten but found myself doing another to take it to fifteen. Back at the hotel, about 700m from the park, I hit the tiny gym for a short but all round workout.
I am in Amsterdam, Holland. I only just found out the difference between Netherlands and Holland.
But a recap here of the morning. Woke up at a reasonably early time. It was cold out and especially in Amsterdam, I wasn’t too keen to try and figure out the best route for a quick one hour. As it is, I was short on time.
So I made my way to the dreary gym, but surprisingly, it turned out to be a good fartlek effort on the treadmill.
The Spotify rock playlist works well.
After landing, I made my directly to the stupendous Rijksmuseum.
I didn’t go inside but met work folks and left for Rotterdam. After a full work day, and dinner with everyone, there was no chance to run today. To be expected.
Because I fly out tonight and will miss the run tomorrow on Tuesday, I decided to make a dash of it on the treadmill.
Monday is usually an off after long run Sunday, but there have been enough offs lately.
Listening to the likes of Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana and other old school rock from the 90’s thanks to a Spotify playlist, the minutes went by at an easy run pace.
This morning I reached Nehru Park on little sleep but rearing to go. I needed a long run under my feet.
It was already hot but I couldn’t want the run more than I did this morning. I put on an old playlist and off I went.
Today I stuck to the Niti Marg – Shanti Path loop for a solid twenty. The run was on the side of a tempo pace, perhaps faster than I should have, but that’s what I felt like today.
After that it was home to see through the young boy do a good run on the treadmill while I went through a circuit workout.
There is more travel coming up ahead and I hope to maintain some routine.
